FileCatalyst Workflow: Online Storage

Before FileCatalyst, our file transfers used to take 1–2 days. Now they are done in hours. No other products we tested came close.

File Area Access

Even without using the submission and workflow aspects of the application, all versions of FileCatalyst Workflow include file storage areas. This allows the application to replace or work alongside FTP.

FileCatalyst provides options for direct access to individual and group file areas (click to expand):

Web Portal

Popular online “drop box” and “file-sending” solutions are very convenient. But they are not necessarily secure, and have storage size limitations. FileCatalyst Workflow carries the benefits, but not the drawbacks of such solutions.

Access your own files from anywhere in the world that has an internet connection, using nothing more than a web browser. All activity in the file area has a user-accessible history for security and convenience.

HotFolder Automation

Unlike many online storage services which include only web-based access, FileCatalyst Workflow offers the ability to use the FileCatalyst HotFolder desktop application. You can use the HotFolder for file submission, but it can also be used to automate transfers between a user's storage area and a watched (“hot”) folder on their system.

Express Client

The FileCatalyst Express desktop client closely resembles common FTP clients. With its two-pane interface (local files, remote files), users who are accustomed to standard FTP applications will feel right at home. Simply drag and drop to or from the remote filesystem to initiate a transfer to or from the storage area.

Mobile Upload App

The FileCatalyst Upload applet allows users to send files from their iOS mobile device to an individual or group file storage area. (Android app coming soon)

Application Programming Interface (API)

FileCatalyst offers a client-side SDK, which contains an API and sample code which will allow 3rd-party developers to create new FileCatalyst-powered transfer tools. If your organization already uses custom-built software, you can easily add FileCatalyst as the file transfer mechanism.

Individual and Group Storage

Each user account may optionally be enabled with a personal file area. Administrators can toggle automatic creation of personal file areas for all new accounts.

The system administrator may create a limitless number of groups, each with distinct file areas. Permissions are granular, meaning that some members of the group might have read-only access, while others will have full read and write capability.

From Storage...to Workflow

Although the File Area can operate completely independently of the “submission” aspect of FileCatalyst Workflow, it doesn't have to.

A user can select any files or directories from one of their storage areas, and submit them as a new “job”. This allows users to collaborate on files without needing to re-upload them when it's time, as well as to use the same files for multiple jobs.

Once a file has been selected for a “job” it follows the web-based workflow process. Learn More  →
