FileCatalyst is proud to announce the launch of our Mobile Upload app, available for iOS 5.0 devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch).

Tips and Tricks
Progressive Transfers (or "keep-transferring-my-file-as-I-write-to-it") is a option available in all FileCatalyst clients. When enabled, this tells the transmitter to keep checking the size of the file while you're transferring.
In a scenario where an application currently writing the file to disk (ex: video is being encoded) transfers, it can, begin right away even while the file is being generated. After each portion of the file is transferred the software will verify if the file has grown, and will resume the transfer until it detects that the file growth has stopped.
Combining Progressive Transfers with other features (such as Single Zip Archiving) allows the zip bundle to start being transferred even before all files have been added in, and provides greatly reduced transfer times.

Data Compression and Zip Archiving
FileCatalyst is all about getting your data to where you want it to go, and doing it faster. Two ways to accomplish this are through compression and zip archiving.
On-the-fly compression involves looking at each block of data to see if we can compress the data before firing it across the wire. Two methods are available: Zip Deflator (standard zip), and LMZA (high compression but significant CPU and Memory usage). Each block of data is compressed in real time, and the process can benefit from multiple cores if more than one block sender is specified.
Zip Archiving uses standard compression, but the main benefit is to collect files into one archive before sending. This results in dramatic improvements in performance when the file set contains many smaller (< 1MB) files.
Zip Archiving also has the ability to create smaller Zip Chunks. Files are divided into sets of archives which can be unzipped as soon as they arrive. Combined with the Progressive feature, this provides an exceptionally responsive method of not only sending but also using files as early as possible.
Aberdeen Captioning is the leader in closed captioning, transcribing, and subtitles for the deaf and hearing impaired and here is what they had to say about FileCatalyst:
“...Exactly the products we needed to build Aberfast, our digital video file delivery service. Support and responsiveness is absolutely the best!”
